Year Of The Tulip
"All flowers bring me joy and heal me. But tulips, ah tulips, whether in the garden, or in a vase indoors, or memorialized forever in a painting, these beautiful, classic, spring bulbs, always make me happy!" ~ Artist Laura Leeder
Tulips say “spring” like no other flowers. Their vivid, paint-box colors are a feast for winter-weary eyes. These members of the lily family grow on a single stem and flower from teardrop-shaped bulbs that are planted in the fall for spring flowers the following year.
Passion Pink Tulips, Watercolour, Acrylic & Ink Painting, April 2018

Artist Laura Leeder
Passion Pink Tulips is my newest painting in my "Small Garden Floral Series". These paintings celebrate the season's, starting with Spring. I am working on these small wood panels, while I practice and hone new skills and techniques. Each of these 8 x 8 inch wood panel paintings is developed slowly, building on a series of layers. This allows me to add soft, textural color and pattern into my backgrounds. The final layer hints at a muted lace pattern and the overall effect is quite pleasing, creating an even deeper connection to the finished floral painting.
In the language of flowers, each color of tulip has its own meaning. What does the color pink suggest? Happiness, and good wishes. They also mean that you care, and that you feel an attachment to someone.
