Every Painting Starts With The Planting Of Seeds.

I plant "seeds of beauty and happiness" into every painting.

"Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds."

Using small pieces of paper torn from my favorite home decor magazines I collage these onto my wood panels. I select colorful images, floral patterns, and interesting words and phrases in fun and colorful fonts.

The Selected Words, Phrases And Even Quotes Are About Design, Color, Gardening, Lifestyle, Creating. Some Examples Are: Artistic, Everyday Magic, Beautiful, Gardening For The Soul

These are the “seeds of beauty and happiness:” that I plant into the layers of my paintings. Some of the words and phrases will be clearly visible through the final layers and others will just barely peek through. Some will be completely hidden in the final layer. Either way, they cause me to smile, filling me with a deep sense of happiness and fun, as they guide my intent for each painting.

I continue adding layers of transparent paint, using stencils and other mark making tools, allowing the colors to bleed through each layer. I then sketch in the design of the painting, adding paint colors as needed. The final result is like a tapestry of intricate and complex colour combinations and textures woven within the finished painting.

As I paint I think about the feeling I want to create in each piece and the emotional connection I hope to convey. The complete process can be quite complex but is always deeply satisfying.
