From Garden to Canvas:June Inspirations

Updated: Dec 20, 2024

“Peonies are a timeless treasure in the June garden; their elegance and beauty are simply unparalleled”.

~Artist Laura Leeder

June in my garden is a time of serene beauty and abundant growth. Over the past two weeks, I've dedicated myself to tending the landscape, tackling tasks ranging from trimming trees and shrubs to enriching the soil in the flower beds and mulching around new plantings. As I wander through my garden, I am greeted by the sweet fragrance of lilacs filling the air with their heavenly scent. Soon, they will give way to the peonies and roses, of which I have several varieties.

"In the garden of life, peonies remind us that beauty unfolds in its own time, and patience yields the most breathtaking blossoms."

It’s a special time of year as the landscape thrives, lush with vibrant greens and colorful blooms. Each morning, I am awakened by a symphony of bird songs, a gentle reminder that summer has arrived. The season beckons me to pause, embrace the tranquility of nature, and spend more time outdoors, escaping the busyness of my art business.

“"Peonies, with their soft and fragrant petals, are the poetry of the garden, expressing the silent beauty of nature."

I eagerly anticipate the imminent bloom of the peonies and roses, their tightly closed buds promising a spectacle of beauty. I look forward to bringing these exquisite flowers indoors and adorning my home with their delicate splendor and captivating aroma. Among the flowers, the bright pink peonies have particularly captured my attention. My newest painting, "Songbirds in the Peonies," is a visual ode to these blossoms and the serenity and beauty of nature in my garden landscape. Incorporating their striking hues into yet another painting, I’ve tried to translate their elegance onto canvas.

June in my garden is a time of inspiration and harmony, where nature's wonders fuel my creative spirit and offer moments of peaceful reflection. Now that the landscape has been tamed for another month, I can turn back to my plans of developing a series of paintings featuring “birds in the landscape.” I have completed two small studies of a Blue Jay on a dogwood branch with white blossoms. Next up is a small hummingbird painting. I’ve placed a hanging basket of fuchsia at my front living room window where we can enjoy their visits to these blossoms.

"A peony blossom holds within its petals the essence of elegance and grace, a timeless symbol of love and prosperity."
