The Story Behind The Orchard Singer

The Story Behind The Orchard Singer

The apple blossoms were just out, dancing like white froth in the April breezes." ~Nancy Mckenzie

A Quiet Return to the Orchard 🌿

Spring arrives quietly here in the Kootenays.

On a walk with a friend earlier this week, we stopped beside an old tree just beginning to bloom. The first blossoms had opened—soft pink against the branches—and beyond them, the valley stretched out in that familiar, peaceful way.

We stood there for a moment, taking it in.

It reminded me how special this season is. Not quite full bloom yet, but just beginning—the kind of beauty you almost miss if you’re not paying attention.

I’ve been thinking about the apple blossoms lately, and the chickadees that return to them each spring. Their songs, their movement from branch to branch… those small, fleeting moments that stay with you.

That feeling became Orchard Singer.

“Blossom by blossom the spring begins.” ~ Algernon

A quiet moment of birdsong and blossoms—something simple, but deeply grounding. A reminder to pause, to notice, and to enjoy what’s already here.

This piece is part of my Spring Song Collection, inspired by the birds, blooms, and changing seasons here in the Kootenays. Each design begins as an original painting and is then thoughtfully created as a fine art print for your home.

Playful, nature-inspired art that brings a sense of calm, beauty, and everyday joy into your home.
